Transit App

The Transit app is the leading transport app in North America.to help navigate your trip by bus and train. Transit counts millions of active users in more than 300 cities worldwide, and is now available in Detroit, Chicago and even London. Users can easily navigate the region, aided by accurate real-time bus ETAs, trip planning, step-by-step navigation, and crowdsourced real-time information with Transit’s GO feature.

Token Transit

DART passes can be purchased through the Token Transit app. Token Transit is a widely used ticketing app which provides transit passes for over 200 cities across the United States and Canada.

QLINE

The QLINE is Detroit’s only streetcar line, connecting downtown Detroit with the Midtown and New Center areas. Streetcars (trams) operate at regular intervals, usually every 10-15 minutes, providing a reliable transportation option for exploring downtown Detroit. The QLINE is currently free to ride.

People Mover

The Detroit People Mover is an automated elevated train system that loops around downtown Detroit. It has 13 stations strategically located around downtown, connecting key destinations like the Renaissance Center, Greektown, and Joe Louis Arena. Trains run approximately every 3-4 minutes during peak hours and every 7-10 minutes during non-peak hours. Single-ride tokens (75 cents) may be purchased from vending machines located at each station. Alternatively (and rather quaintly), U.S. coins (quarters, nickels, dimes) may be inserted directly into the fare gates to travel.

Detroit Department of Transportation

The Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) operates an extensive network of bus routes covering major areas of the city. Buses run throughout Detroit and its surrounding suburbs. DDOT accepts both cash and DART passes (purchased through Token Transit). Exact change is required for cash payments.

Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation

If you need to travel outside the city, the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) is your go-to option. SMART operates bus services that connect Detroit with its surrounding suburbs including limited stop ‘FAST’ routes. SMART accepts cash and DART passes (purchased through Token Transit) for fare payment. Remember to carry exact change if paying in cash.

Other Public Transportation Options

Mogo Bikes

MoGo is Metro Detroit’s docking bike share system. Stations are located all over downtown as well as SE Oakland County suburbs. Mogo passes may be purchased through the Transit app.

Scooters

Scooters are an option for short trips in the downtown area. Bird, Spin and Lime (operated by Uber) are the main providers.

Ride-Sharing and Taxis

Services like Uber and Lyft operate extensively throughout Detroit. Traditional taxis are also available, and you can hail them on the street or find them at designated taxi stands.
